Crock Pot Italian Beef Dip Sandwiches

Crock Pot Italian Beef Dip Sandwich

I'm sure you have heard of "French Dip Sandwiches". I'm sure you have tasted "French Dip Sandwiches". They're great! Origination and description based on Wikipedia: French Dip Sandwich.

The Country Cook, Brandie, recently pinned her Crock Pot Italian Beef Sandwich on Pinterest. She has some great Pins and I love her blog posts. Give Brandie's blog a visit.

I wanted to try her recipe, with a little boost of my own making.  And with the summer heat in full swing, what better way to cook than with the trusty crock pot. But even without the summer heat, I just love using my crock pot(s) and it helps to 'lessen' the cooking 'chore'.

So, Let's Try It!

Ingredients: (makes approx. 4-6 sandwiches)

  • 1 (3-4 lb.) beef roast (rump, round, chuck - I used a chuck/pot roast)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (.7 oz.) packet dry zesty Italian Salad Dressing mix
  • 2 c. beef broth (can or broth made from granules)
  • 1 (16 oz.) jar Pepperoncini Peppers (whole or sliced, your preference, I used whole)
  • Provolone Cheese slices (figure 2/3 slices per sandwich)
  • Lettuce leafs (I used green curly leaf lettuce)
  • 4-6 subway style bread rolls

Directions:

1. Place the roast in the crock pot.
2. In a saucepan: add the salt, pepper, oregano, basil, onion powder, parsley, garlic powder, bay leaf, Italian Salad Dressing pack. Stir to mix ingredients.
3. Add the beef broth to the saucepan, stir well to mix. Heat to a boil on the stove. Stirring occasionally.
4. Add 1/2 jar of the Pepperoncini Peppers, along with approximately 1/2 of the juice to the broth mixture. Stir.
5. Pour the mixture over the roast in the crock pot.
6. Place lid on crock pot & cook on low for approximately 7-8 hours (crock pot cooking temps vary).

Serving:

1. Remove roast from crockpot & slice or shred beef. Return to crock pot, set to warm.
2. Open sub rolls, place a little margarine or butter on insides. Toast in broiler or inside down in a heavy skillet.
3. Place lettuce leaf(s) on bottom half of roll, add sliced/shredded roast, include some of the cooked Pepperoncini Peppers, 2 or 3 slices of Provolone Cheese & top of roll.
4. Ladle some of the juice mixture into small dipping bowls to serve with sandwich.

I served these with some seasoned fries (oven baked, not deep fried) and a small side salad!

Enjoy your Crock Pot Italian Beef Dip Sandwiches. WildWSS outta here!
