2012 Concerts in the Park
Saturday, July 14, 2012 was the second concert of the summer season. Headlining for this concert was Down Beat Express - Big Band Sound featuring Jennifer Gates and guest, Paul Cacia. We love our local talent!
Paul Cacia , trumpet artist, plays jazz-pop selections, with over 30 years as a soloist.
Vocalist, Jennifer Gates, sings classics from the Great American Songbook and is a local favorite. The Great American Songbook is a hypothetical construct that seeks to represent the best American songs of the 20th century principally from Broadway, musical theatre and Hollywood musicals, from the 1920s to 1960, including dozens of songs of enduring popularity. The Great American Songbook became (and remains) a vital part of the repertoire of jazz musicians, who describe such songs simply as "jazz standards".
Down Beat Express is a seventeen piece big band, performing many swing era favorites and big band hits.
There are only seven concerts remaining:
- Americana, Folk & More
- Hot Latin Jazz & Salsa
- Reggae, Calypso, Soca & Steel Drum Music
- The Sounds of the Beatles & more
- Cajun Zydeco Music, Contemporary Latin-Jazz
- Tribute to Johnny Cash & other Country Classics

Check out Jennifer: Get Your Kicks on Route 66
According to Wikipedia: "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66", often rendered simply as "Route 66", is a popular song and rhythm and blues standard, composed in 1946 by American songwriter Bobby Troup. It was first recorded in the same year by Nat King Cole, and was subsequently covered by many artists including Chuck Berry in 1961, The Rolling Stones in 1964, Depeche Mode in 1987 and Glenn Frey in 2012 . The song's lyrics follow the path of the U.S. Route 66 highway, which used to run a long distance across the U.S., going from Chicago, Illinois, to Los Angeles, California.
